12.1 | Following the completion of coursework, every PhD student shall be required to pass the comprehensive examination to be granted candidacy as a PhD researcher, with the provision that the student failing to pass the comprehensive exam, shall be allowed to retake the exam once. |

12.2 | The required coursework, comprehensive exam, and defense of synopsis/research proposals should be completed within the 1st six semesters of the registration into a PhD program. The responsibility in this regard rests collectively with the PhD student and the university. In case of noncompliance, the registration shall be cancelled and transcripts for completion of coursework may be issued to the student |

12.3 | In an event of force majeure i.e., noncompliance on account of circumstances beyond the control of student, the university may decide in AS&RB. |

12.4 | The following are the guidelines for a conducting Comprehensive Examination: |

a. |
Soon after the registration the PhD scholar shall submit a supervisor selection proforma to DAC, the DAC will allocate the supervisor to PhD scholar. The supervisor will choose a supervisory committee including a subject expert. |

b. |
The Chairman DAC, after approval from the concerned Dean Faculty will process the case to GSO for notification of date, time, and venue of the comprehensive exam. Rs. 4000 shall be charged as comprehensive fee from the scholar |

c. |
Dean Faculty, Chairman DAC, Chairman GSO, and supervisory committee will take comprehensive exam from the PhD scholar, based on courses studied, preferably at the graduate level. |

d. |
The evaluation shall be on an aggregate basis, expressed in terms of pass/fail and shall not be graded. If failed the scholar will have to avail the second chance within one month. |

e. |
The Chairman DAC will forward a copy of result to GSO and semester cell to incorporate in course completion certificate. |
