2.         PREAMBLES TO Ph.D. PROGAM OF STUDIES:

2.1      

HEC Rules and Regulations will be followed in letter and spirit approved by the Statutory Bodies of this University.

2.2  
All faculty Deans and Departmental Chairmen/Chairpersons/Directors will be responsible to develop their Entry Test through PhD faculty members in their respective Department/Center/Institute for applicants and shall be conducted through UOBTS (where applicable).
2.3
If applicant is a government servant, he/she needs to produce N.O.C., from the concerned department.
2.4

Six courses of 18 credit hours will have to be completed by PhD scholar in one year time.

2.5

PhD scholars shall complete research in two (02) years’ time after the completion of course work.

2.6
For award of PhD degree, a PhD researcher shall be required to publish research articles in a HEC recognized HJRS journals or notified by HEC time to time, meeting the following criteria:
 
i.
At least:
 
a.

One research article in W category journal or two research articles in X category journals, for Science disciplines

 
b.

One research article in X category journal or two research articles in Y category journals, for Social Science disciplines

 
ii.
The PhD researcher shall be the first author of these publications.
 
iii.

The research article shall be relevant to the PhD research work of the PhD researcher.

 
iv.

The article shall be published after approval of the research synopsis.

 
v.

The article shall be published in a relevant research journal.

2.7
The interviews for admission in PhD program of studies will be conducted by the Departmental Admission Committee (DAC). DAC will examine the applications, verify their documents in order to ensure the suitability of the candidates to pursue a higher degree.
2.8
For pursuing a PhD degree, MS/MPhil degree with 30 credit hours in the relevant subject with 3.00 CGPA is a prerequisite from any recognized University. In case of foreign degree, it will be ascertained by HEC that it is equivalent to Pakistani MS/ MPhil degree from any recognized University / Institution.

A Research Supervisor can enroll up to Five (05) PhD candidates.
2.10
The core and elective courses will be designed by each Department/ Center / Institute by keeping in view the rules of the semester system dully processed and approved by the relevant statutory bodies.
2.11
For the award of PhD degree, a course work of at least 18 credit hours; followed by a Comprehensive Examination and open thesis defense, after positive evaluation by external expert(s) as elaborated in section-19.
2.12

75% attendance is mandatory for appearing in semester’s examinations. However, the supervisor will submit his/her progress report after each semester of research work that the scholar’s performance is satisfactory.

2.13
A plagiarism test of PhD thesis is essential through Quality Assurance and Accreditation Directorate (QAAD), University of Balochistan.
2.14 
PhD dissertation must be evaluated by the experts depending upon the category of publication and panel submitted by the supervisor and approved by the Board of Studies and AS&RB.
2.15
Meet all other pre and post requirements of the University of Balochistan and Higher Education Commission of Pakistan (if any).
